7 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW WHEN STARTING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS

Are you thinking of starting a photography business and for now it's just a thought that's been lingering? Well this blog should help you get started on a path of success. These are the 7 things no one told me!

1. LOVE WHAT YOU DO

First of all loving what you do is the most important ingredient for doing any type of service that helps others. People see the passion and dedication for what you are offering them and it’s your responsibility to give them the absolute best of you always. So if you feel like it’s just another way to make money and you really aren’t that into it then it’s not the answer for you and you need to stop reading this now.

2. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

Bury yourself in everything there is to know to start your craft. Not the business side of it yet but the craft itself. The greatest success stories come from those who are self taught in their passions. Those who are thirsty for that knowledge and hungry for that dream.

3. SHOW UP

Put yourself and your work out there for the world to see. Going on social media with a message you have about your service is so important but not as important as showing who you are. This is a saturated market and ultimately people nowadays are hiring people that offer a level of genuinity . Their instincts are to trust the person they are buying from and it then becomes a very easy sell that product which creates an all around harmony between two parties.

4. LET CRITIQUE FUEL YOU

Ask for critique but make sure that you can take it to fuel you to get better and take it from people that are genuine in their feedack. People have told me things about my work that hurt my feelings or should I say hurt my ego. I didn’t want to hear it but when I finally could process that critique coming from a place of love then I could understand that I needed to learn more about my weaknesses in order to strengthen them.

5. DON’T BE AFRAID TO REACH OUT TO OTHER PROFESSIONALS

Ask for help from others in the industry. Even if one person doesn’t give you the time of day then onto the next. Having help from people that have experienced something similar or are in the place you want to be gives such a different perspective on how you are doing things. Just be mindful that it falls in alignment with your purpose and beliefs.

6. SAY BYE FELICIA!

Block out all negativity. Don’t pay attention to the people who make you feel like you don’t belong here. Those that lay their judgement are those who come from a place of their own insecurities. Align yourself with people that are going to celebrate your wins and turn the cheek to those who really don’t do anything good for your soul or your steps moving forward. Remember that if we pay attention to all of the negativity then I would be crawled under my bed right now and not giving you this message I really want to share.

7. GIVE YOURSELF GRACE

By this I mean, knowing that you will not have all the answers in the beginning or the middle or the end. It’s important to enjoy the ride of growth and self discovery. Allow yourself time to know who you are within that passion making sure that you are providing a product or service that stays true to you always. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is the worlds most famous photographer!

Good Luck in your venture and I hope you find that all your dreams are just around the corner waiting for you!
